Why did Uthman (R.A) unite the Quran if he included the different recitations as well as dialects?
Assalamu alaikum,
I hope you can answer! As we know very well, Uthman (R.A) compiled the Quran to unite the Muslims under one dialect. And that is the Qureysh Dialect. But, from other Islamic websites, I have read that he included words like هو in some Mushaf which he sent to Madinah and other places, which is seen in the Qirat of Warsh. So, my question is, why did Uthman (R.A) unite the Quran if he included the different recitations as well as dialects? Jazak Allah!
The Answer
Wa alikom asslam,
Alhamdulilah
You said:
“Uthman (R.A) compiled the Quran to unite the Muslims under one dialect.”
This is false, Uthman رضي الله عنه compiled the Quran into one mus’haf not under one dialect. The reason is that different sahabah had different mus’hafs depending on how many they heard from the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم
So there had to be one main mus’haf that compiled everything, and all the other incomplete ones were burnt to unite everyone under the main mushaf.
The mushaf of Uthman includes all the 7 ahruf (10 qira’at) since in contains all the possibilities, so you will not find missing words in it.
I hope this clears up the confusion in shaa Allah
Allah knows best.
