Can a student study simultaneous courses?
In theory: Yes. But the actual answer depends on which courses.
If a student still needs to learn Arabic, and he wants to start learning ‘Quranic Arabic’, then this is not possible because one course is the foundation of the other.
But if a student is studying ‘Quranic Arabic’ and wants to obtain their ‘Ijazah Course’ or they want to have ‘Language Partner’ Course, then this is possible. In any case, if you are in doubt, always ask your supervisor and he will in shaa Allah provide the proper solution.
Why does a basic course like ‘Arabic basics’ require 26 hours?
The duration of a course is calculated based on the average time a student takes to cover all the aspects of this program. It is important to know that this is a full literacy course, and it isn’t just learning the Arabic alphabet, but to actually fully prepare you to read the Quran, and basically to read and write anything in Arabic with ease. Here are some of the things that are typically covered in Arabic basics course:
- Arabic literacy basics: learning the alphabet and be able to identify and write all Arabic letters in isolation and in connected form
- Study the Arabic vowel system: Recognize and apply all type of Arabic diacritics with proper pronunciation
- Learn the basics of Arabic reading. This includes learning rules like: Sun laam, Moon Laam, types of hamzah, hamzat Al-wasl, hamzat alqat’, the types of taa, taa’ marbootah, haa marbootah.
- Learning how to read write Arabic and become legible.
- Learning how to read handwritten Arabic (which will look different from computer written Arabic)
- Learning the basics of Uthmani codex symbols: how hamza’s are written, the seven alifs, symbol of dagger alif, symbol of yaa’, and other symbols that are unique to reading the Quran.
- Learn some basic some vocabulary in Arabic to read, understand and formulate simple Arabic sentences.
- Since only learning these things will not automatically lead to fluency when reading, some guided practice is needed:
- Practice with reading and understanding A1 level texts. In these, we follow the ERK language European standards to ensure consistency in your training. So, all these elements require quite a bit of time to go through them, study them, do homework, get assessed, do reading with teacher, practice writing, do pronunciation training, get final examination and so many other aspects. This is all to ensure that when you get your certificate for the course completion in shaa Allah, it would mean something and you would have truly become fully literate in Arabic, and are able to read anything in Arabic with fluency in shaa Allah.
Can I suggest different course duration other than what is indicated?
Yes, of course .. The teacher is the one who determines how long does the student require in a certain course. If the teacher doesn’t have a clear idea based on the trial session, then the teacher can use the indicated number of hours since it is based on the average performance of a student.
Sometimes a student requires some remedial work in order to move from one course or level to another.
Example:
A student who studied Arabic before, but still makes mistakes in writing or reading .. will still get the Arabic literacy course, but not with the same number of hours as a complete beginner.
In case the teacher is not sure about the number of hours, he/ she can consult with their supervision.
I have a ‘Legacy Tier’ student, what does that mean for me?
Legacy Tier is the highest tier with the most flexible plan, most number of perks, and certainly the most expensive. This means that your hourly rate is also considerably higher than other tiers, so the the teacher is expected to do more than what he/ she does in a regular class. But what does that mean for you?
1- Time flexibility
Most Legacy Tier students choose this tier because of their ability to cancel classes or reschedule them to fit their busy schedules. So you should be prepared that the lesson might be cancelled at least once a month, without being reported as absent. If you are not sure what to do if the student doesn’t show up, always consult with your supervisor before reporting the student.
Please check the administrative documentation on the difference between ‘cancelling’ classes and ‘rescheduling classes.
2- Video Recording
Another feature that many students choose Legacy Tier for, is their ability to re-watch the recorded sessions. This means that you are expected to record the classes you have with legacy students. These recordings appear on our system, and they are sent to the student after class. If you don’t know how to record a session, please check ‘Tutorials’ documentation for a detailed explanation on that issue
3- Personalized Teaching
We want to offer Legacy students more than what we offer regular students. In this case, it is full personalization. This means that, the lesson you prepared last week for your private student might not perfectly fit the needs or level of your legacy student, so you are expected to prepare a lesson that suits the level and needs of your legacy student.
You are expected to take notes during class of what the weak points are of your student and try to address them in future lessons. We adjust our method as we go to provide a custom experience which this student expects, and compensated us for our time.
4- Personalized Testing
Similar to the previous point, teachers are expected to design periodical quizzes and tests to test the understanding of the students. These tests are also based on the teacher’s experience with the student and what the student actually needs more focus on.
5- Chatting function
Legacy students have the option to directly ask questions to teachers .. This happens through the chatting function on the system. We expect the teacher to answer such questions within 6 hours. Please bear in mind that management team have the ability to read these messages with your students.
6- Paper books
Legacy students receive their paper books shipped to them. This means that you can give them instructions, or homework from their books and that they have access to their material in paper form.
7- Ebook library
Legacy students also have access to Arabic101 entire e-library which is to be access on our system. If you think your student needs something from it, you can always instruct them to download it from their e-library.
Finally, if you think that this is too many things to keep track of or you don’t want to accept legacy students, please report that to your supervisor.
I have an ‘Excellence Tier’ student, what does that mean for me?
Excellence Tier is mid-tier plan, which has some flexibility and some perks that gives it an edge above other tiers. This means that your hourly rate is also higher than other tiers, so the the teacher is expected to do more than what he/ she does in a regular class. But what does that mean for you?
1- Time flexibility
Most Excellence Tier students choose this tier because of their ability to reschedule them to fit their schedules. They may reschedule up to 3 classes per month. So you should be aware of that fact before reporting your student as absent.
Please check the administrative documentation on the difference between ‘cancelling’ classes and ‘rescheduling classes.
2- Video Recording
Another feature that many students choose Excellence Tier for, is their ability to re-watch the recorded sessions. This means that you are expected to record the classes you have with Excellence students. These recordings appear on our system, and they are sent to the student after class. If you don’t know how to record a session, please check ‘Tutorials’ documentation for a detailed explanation on that issue
3- Personalized Teaching
We want to offer Excellence students more than what we offer regular students. In this case, it is full personalization. This means that, the lesson you prepared last week for your private student might not perfectly fit the needs or level of your Excellence student, so you are expected to prepare a lesson that suits the level and needs of your Excellence student.
You are expected to take notes during class of what the weak points are of your student and try to address them in future lessons. We adjust our method as we go to provide a custom experience which this student expects, and compensated us for our time.
